Former president and chairman of the Danish Medical Association, Former Medical Director (CMO) of Lillebaelt Hospital

Bio

I am a medical doctor educated from Aarhus University in 1997. I’m a specialist in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. I have 10 years of experience from prehospital emergency medical service. I have been involved in quality improvement and innovation as part of my daily clinical work and through leadership. After 10 years of practice, I became involved in leadership and was appointed Clinical Lead / Head of department in 2008. In 2010 I was elected president and chairman of the Danish Medical Association.
My main areas of interest: Leadership in healthcare, Quality improvement in healthcare, Prudent use of Health DATA, Medical ethics, and Anti Microbial Résistance (AMR).

In the following 5 years I was hugely engaged in international cooperation. As part of the World Medical Association, I contributed to the work on the ethics of handling patient data, both in clinical work and in research. I chaired a working group on “greening of medical practice – what can we do?” I have learned a lot about cooperation with specialists from many countries, and what it takes to reach an agreement.
As one of four Danish representatives in The Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME) I managed to put Antimicrobial Resisters (AMR) on the agenda. I chaired the group that worked on the medical perspective on AMR, and we started a very rewarding work with the European Vet Organization (FVE) under the headline of One Health. Again, I discovered the pro and cons of international cooperation.
From 2015 to 2020, I worked as a Medical Director (CMO) of Lillebaelt Hospital. Here we have dedicated one of our facilities to be “The Patient’s Cancer Hospital” and one to be the “Patient’s Emergency Hospital”. This meant we always put the patient and the patient’s perspectives first. We do our best to involve patients in daily practice and in research as well. I have been in close contact with the research field in my work and through that have good knowledge of research as a discipline.
Since the summer of 2020, I have worked as an independent Executive Healthcare advisor and consultant on strategy and leadership.
